Patterson Companies is publicly traded under symbol PDCO on the NASDAQ. Patterson Medical is one of three business units of Patterson, with the others being Patterson Dental and Webster Veterinary.
Patterson Medical was founded in the year 2003 under President David Sproat. It provides rehabilitation supplies and equipment to health care professionals globally. Its mission is to give health care professionals the tools needed to improve the lives of their patients, helping them safely achieve independence and comfort. Furthermore, it provides more than 12,000 products to athletic trainers in recreational, amateur and professional sports.
Rehabilitation products are marketed under the Sammons Preston brand. Orthopedic soft goods include splints, braces and orthotics for protecting and supporting patients suffering from injury or debilitation. Patterson also produces clinical products that support the examination and treatment of patients. These include exercise bands, putty, weights, balls and mats. Its broad supply of products allows it to be a one-stop shop in the sports medicine market, with a global market share nearly four times that of the closest competitor.
Consumable products from Patterson Medical include useful aids for daily living, such as aids for dressing, toileting, dining, bathing and grooming devices. Another major product category for Patterson Medical is mobility products to assist patients in moving about in their daily lives. These products include walkers, canes and wheelchair accessories. Additionally, Patterson Medical provides pediatric products, which include wedges, specialty seating devices and standers for special needs children. Products for heating and cooling therapies include ultrasound, laser, paraffin and therapeutic creams and lotions.
Its international business units include Homecraft, which markets Patterson Medical's products in the United Kingdom. The other international operation is Kinetec in France, which provides Continuous Passive Motion machines, in addition to the other Patterson Medical products. Both of the international operations broadly operate using the same business model as their North American companies.
Patterson Medical is based in Bolingbrook, Illinois. The distribution of products in North America is implemented using its high-tech Patterson Logistics Services, Inc. (PLSI) organization. PLSI has 10 distribution locations throughout the USA, which enables rapid, on-time delivery of products to its customers. Patterson Medical's rehabilitation supplies are produced in manufacturing plants in Wisconsin, New York and South Carolina. Patterson Medical has 14 branch office locations overall, six of which are shared with the parent corporation's dental supply business. Patterson medical also operates facilities located in the United Kingdom, France and Canada.
The objective of Patterson Medical is to be the first choice of every customer who needs rehabilitation medical supplies and non-wheelchair assistive products. It plans to continue its development through internal expansion and strategic acquisitions in both rehabilitation and other related products. With its focus on providing the best and broadest range of products, Patterson Medical will continue its successful efforts in improving the lives of its customers.
